Dr. Fredrick Ilo, an eyewitness who spoke to reporters, stated that the incident occurred around 9 p.m., after residents reported hearing cracks in the building and rushing out of the home.

A two-story building has collapsed in the state of Enugu's Ifo Layout, Abakpa Nike Area.

There possibly have been a woman trapped in the debris in the event that happened on Sunday night.

Dr. Fredrick Ilo, an eyewitness who spoke to reporters, stated that the incident occurred around 9 p.m., after residents reported hearing cracks in the building and rushing out of the home.

He added that a large number of people escaped the building alive, but it is still unknown whether anyone was confined inside.

"At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, an occupant of the two-story building approached me and began knocking," he explained. They reported hearing cracking noises emanating from the building.

We began shrieking for everyone to exit the building. Some of them began to run out. Ten minutes later, the entire structure collapsed. They are all in my compound.

"They did not bring any property with them. I don't believe anyone is present. Six families reside in the building. I observed that developers did not account for drainage in that location.

"The location is typically flooded. If it is feasible for the government to intervene and ensure proper drainage in that region, please do so.

Another resident stated, "We are awaiting the arrival of the payloader from SEMA in order to begin excavation. In addition, we have arranged for our own excavator.

"A woman reported that she has not seen any of her guests, but it has not yet been confirmed that anyone is trapped."

The woman stated that she contacted the family of the lady who came to visit her, and they informed her that the lady had not returned. She has not raised this alarm until now, so everyone is stunned by her statement. All the individuals who left the building are staying with nearby neighbours.

Monday saw the mobilisation of officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for rescue operations.
