Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has mandated its contractors across the region to register with the Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA).

The commission said henceforth, all its contractors must register with the Chambers to be qualified to execute contract for the regional interventionist agency.

Managing Director of the Commission Chief Samuel Ogbuku, made the disclosure on Friday in Calabar during a sensitisation to the establishment of NDCCITMA.

Ogbuku, whose speech was delivered by the Commissioner representing Cross River State in the commission, Mr Orok Duke, said this was aimed at encouraging participation in the activities of the Chambers.

He said the intention is to ensure that NDCCITMA stands in the gap between NDDC and entrepreneurs to provide support to sustain business.

“Henceforth, as a means to encourage participation in the activities of the Chambers of commerce and benefit from its prospects, every contractor working with NDDC or intends to work with NDDC should register with the Chambers.

“Such certificate will become a prerequisite for doing business with the commission.

“Our intention is to have NDCCITMA stand in the gap between NDDC and entrepreneurs to provide the long sought support to sustain the businesses of those who cannot meet the stringent conditions of financial institutions,” he said.

He said the successful establishment of the Chambers of Commerce would complement the ongoing project HOPE and IFAD programs.

He also said the vision behind establishing the chambers is inline with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda which aims at enabling an assured future for the people of this country.

In his speech, secretary of NDCCITMA, Chief Solomon Edebiri, said the sensitisation aims to create awareness and that a portal will be opened for people to register.

He explained that they would aggregate people into various economic groups, adding that the main target was between the lowest level to the mid level businesses.
