According to him, more people are turning to skit-making after seeing what practitioners are making from it.

A comedian, Mr. Babatunde Ojobaro, popularly known as Mister Rain, says comedians and skit makers use different platforms to pass across information to the public.

Ojobaro told the newsmen in Ibadan on Friday that while comedians’ one goal is to invoke laughter, skit makers may not necessarily be humorous.

“For instance, there are a lot of skit makers who make skits purely for enlightenment, education, and information dissemination.

“Although we have a huge number of skit makers who do comedy, the basic difference between them and comedians will be the platform or means through which their performances are based,” he said.

According to him, more people are turning to skit-making after seeing what practitioners are making from it.

“It’s a known fact in Nigeria or generally in business that when something seems to be working for some people, there is a very high tendency for others to move in that direction.

“A lot of people are trying to survive, and these skit makers have seen that some are making money from it, so they enter the terrain.

“I’m not surprised that we have many skit makers; it was bound to happen as soon as the early skit makers started making money from it,” he said.

He, however, advised those into it to ensure they put in their best to always come up with great content.

“If you are going to do something, do it well. It doesn’t matter if you want to copy someone’s style or content; just do it well,” he said.

He regretted the unpreparedness of many skit makers for the craft as exposed by their poor production and content quality.

“But the internet is a funny place; it can decide to blow up the biggest rubbish. I’ll still maintain that whatever you want to do, do it well,” he said.

Ojobaro, however, said he didn’t see the necessity of having a governing or regulating body for the craft and practitioners.

“I don’t think there’s a need to have a body governing the craft because, really, it’s an individual thing.

“For some people, it’s like a full-time job. For others, it’s part-time, while for some others, it’s just a hobby.

“It’s not like any other profession that requires a team for it to function,” he said.
