Edo: ZLP pledges bursary for students, if elected
Bishop Akhalamhe, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for the Sept. 21 governorship election in Edo, has promised to give bursaries to students in tertiary institutions if elected.
Akalamhe, who made the promise during the official flag-off of the party’s campaign on Monday in Benin, said the bursary was to take the burden of school fees off parents.
“Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. We will ensure that every child in Edo has access to quality education. Our schools will be equipped with modern facilities.
“Our teachers will be well-trained and motivated. We will also prioritise vocational and skill development programmes to prepare our youth for various jobs,” he said.
He also pledged to invest in small businesses and create employment because poverty and unemployment were just a few of the issues that had plagued the state for so long.
Ahkalamhe said the campaign was not just a political event but a symbol of our collective aspirations and dreams.
”We believe in the power of the people, and we are committed to putting the needs and aspirations of our citizens first.
“One of our primary goals is to eradicate poverty in Edo because it has become a vicious cycle that traps families and communities in a state of perpetual struggle,” he added.
He said that his government would revamp the agricultural sector by investing in modern farming techniques and providing farmers with access to credit and markets.
Akhalamhe said that affordable healthcare and women and youth empowerment would also receive the attention of the government because they were crucial for the progress of the state.
According to him, as we embark on this journey, I ask you to change the narrative by getting your PVCs and voting for the ZLP.
He said, “I am committed to serving you with humility, dedication, and integrity. Your hopes and aspirations are at the core of our campaign.”
