Isong urged journalists in Cross River to cooperate with the new NUJ leadership in the state to ensure cohesion within the union and enhanced welfare for members.

Bishop Emmah Isong, the National Publicity Secretary, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has described fake news as a dangerous tool for social tension.

Isong made the call on Wednesday in Calabar when the new executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River Council, visited him.

The cleric, also the presiding Bishop, the Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI) and a patron of the NUJ, said it behoved on the journalists to properly balance stories and portray the truth at all times.

He stated fake news had the ability to fuel global scale crisis and put the society under huge tension.

“We have seen crises and global level armed conflicts erupt as a result of fake news. We have also seen journalists playing the important role of giving a clear and true picture,” he said.

Isong urged journalists in Cross River to cooperate with the new NUJ leadership in the state to ensure cohesion within the union and enhanced welfare for members.

He said that the union would be stronger if members’ welfare was given priority attention by the leadership.

Erlier, Mrs Archibong Bassey, the Chairman, NUJ, Cross River Council, said that the visit was to thank the cleric for his good deeds to the union.

“As a new executive, we have come to ask for your prayers and guidance as a patron of the union.

“We thank you immensely for your support to the union. It is our appeal that you continues to stand by the us.
