FG to begin palliative work on Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Highway
Users of the busy Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway will soon heave a sigh of relief from their harrowing motoring experiences due to the deplorable portions of the highway.
This is because a comprehensive palliative of the 120km road will begin on Oct. 14.
The work will start from the interchange.
The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, announced this when he inspected the expressway alongside the Governor of Ogun, Mr Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday.
Umahi promised that the highway would be fully re-opened by the middle of December for the comfort of travellers during Christmas season.
He said that the palliative, to include installation of streetlights, would be carried out by a reputable construction company.
Umahi said that the work would be supervised by a team of officials of the federal ministries of works, transportation and environment.
” I am here with the Lagos director and controller of works, and Ogun controller of works; we have constituted a committee, an action committee, to liaise with your own team, the commissioner for works, environment, transport, and you came with all of them.
“In an emergency situation like this, we have to look around for a competent contractor. It is not just a competent contractor, we have to look around for a competent contractor that is also close to a location where we want to intervene.
“Luckily for us, I have seen Hitech, and Hitech is here with us.
“I want to assure you that, by the directive of Mr President, latest by Monday, you will see an action,” Umahi said.
Responding, Abiodun thanked President Bola Tinubu for keeping his recent promise of getting the Minister of Works to intervene on the road.
Abiodun said that he had inspected the interchange-to-Sagamu town section, following distress calls by motorists, who spent an average of four hours on that section.
“I am thanking your excellency, Engineer David Umahi, I am thanking you, Mr President.
“I am thanking you also for not looking for some mushroom companies to come and do some nonsense palliative. You have chosen Hitech.
“Hitech is already here constructing from the interchange to Benin Republic, and we are relieved that it will be able to hit the ground running,” Abiodun said.
