Hilda beats Indian chef Lata Tandon's record for longest cook-a-thon
Hilda Baci, the Nigerian Jollof Queen, broke the record for the longest cook-a-thon (cooking marathon) on Monday morning.
Chef Lata Tondon set a record of 87 hours and 45 minutes in India in 2019; the Nigerian chef broke this record at 7:46 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, with a time of 87 hours and 46 minutes.
The chef, who aims for a 93-hour cooking marathon, has spent at least 87 hours showcasing her culinary talents using various local and intercontinental recipes to place Nigeria on the culinary map of the world.
Over the past four days, the 27-year-old has prepared over 110 Nigerian cuisine delicacies.
Hilda has been cooking continuously since 4 p.m. on Thursday, 11 May, and intends to continue cooking until 4 p.m. on Monday in order to achieve her 96-hour record goal.
Hilda also took a one-hour respite between every twelve hours of cooking.
The four-day cooking marathon, which began at 4 p.m. on Thursday, featured celebrity appearances by Tiwa Savage, Banky, and Adesua Wellington, Teni the entertainer, Spyro, and Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu, as well as networking, activities, and brand activations.
The Cook-a-thon is an effort by the actress and TV producer who has demonstrated her culinary prowess on multiple television cooking programmes and represented Nigeria at the Jollof Faceoff Competition in 2021, where she emerged victorious.
Despite a slow start on Thursday, Hilda has become a viral sensation thanks to an enormous wave of Nigerian support.
Numerous people have wished her well online, and politicians and celebrities have called or visited the Amore Gardens location where she has been preparing to offer their support.
