The Imo House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution urging Gov. Hope Uzodimma to revive the abandoned Abadaba Lake resort in Ihitte Uboma.

The followed the adoption of a motion by, Mr Benard Ozoemelam (APC-Ehime Mbano) at plenary on Wednesday.

Presenting the motion, Ozoemelam said that the resort whose work was started by the late Dr Sam Mbakwe’ administration had been abandoned by subsequent administrations in the state.

He said the abandoned structures at the resort had been converted to hideouts for miscreants who use them for illicit activities.

He said that if the resort was completed, it would not only boost the internally generated revenue of the state by boosting tourism but would also provide job opportunities.

He went on to add that the completion of the resort would also ensure that tourism was decentralised in the state and decongest the state capital.

The lawmaker also said that it would bring great development to the area and improve the lives of residents.

He prayed the house to urge the governor to revive the resort, while urging him to establish a special interministerial taskforce to assess the site.

Supporting the motion, Mr Chisom Ojukwu (APC-Nkwerre) agreed that the venture would greatly boost the state internally generated revenue.

Similarly, Mr Princewill Amuchie (APC -Aboh Mbaise) added that if properly managed the resort would draw tourists from all over the world, thereby placing the state on the map as a tourist destination.

Speaking against the motion however, Mr Clinton Amadi (LP-Owerri Municipal) described the resort as a misplaced priority.

Amadi said that several such tourist ventures had not stood the test of time and would fizzle out after a while.

He rather suggested that the resort be converted to a monotechnic devoted to the learning of digital skills adding that it would require less funding to establish.

Following other contributions and votes in support of the motion, the Speaker, Mr Chike Olemgbe (APC-Ihitte Uboma) ruled in favour of the prayers of the motion.

He also directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs Chinelo Emeghara to convey the resolution to the office of the governor.
