Man sues GT Bank for Unjustified Deduction

A disappointed customer of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc has taken the bank to court for alleged unauthorised deductions of approximately 13,000 Naira from his account.

A source close to the plaintiff, Light Ogbonnia, told DAILY ASSET yesterday, "My friend initiated the claim, not for the sum, but to seek justice for a number of other struggling Nigerians who have been victims of such bank fraud."

"We have all been victims, and I admire him for taking such a courageous move to seek justice after numerous appeals to the bank for a return. This would hopefully make our Nigerian banks more accountable for their actions; and I really hope all affected Nigerians will come out en masse on April 4th, next month, at the FCT High Court 54, Gwagwalada, Abuja, to also air their grievances against this corporate shenanigan by the GT bank, and other sister banks," he said.

In the summons document also obtained by DAILY ASSET, Mr. Light asserted that he had suffered exceptional damages as a result of the defendant's negligent conduct (GT Bank).

"On March 7, 2022, the sum of N12, 256.36k (Twelve Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty-Six Naira, Thirty-Six Kobo) was deducted from the claimant's (Mr. Light) Naira account with the name and number: Vision Trends Network, 0198466308, of which the claimant is in fear to make any further transaction as a result of the unholy debit by the defendant (GT Bank)," the

The petition issued by Nnamdi Mba Esq. requested that the court order GT Bank to pay Mr. Light twenty million Naira in compensation for the general and special damages he had experienced since last year as a result of his incapacity to conduct business on the account.

This incident occurred against the backdrop of a widespread cash shortage and commercial banks' discriminatory treatment of Nigerian clients, which has sparked several protests throughout the country.
