Migration Institute lauds automation of passport registration

The Global Migration Research Institute has commended the automation of the passport registration process in the country, describing it as a significant advancement in Nigeria’s security and migration framework.

Dr. Williams Ijoma, President of the institute, said this during a media parley on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him, the development will enable the timely identification of fraudulent passport applicants through the smart document verification systems installed at entry points nationwide.

“We are all witnesses to the rigorous energy-sapping and frustration experienced in the old process; some Nigerians in the Diaspora have been victims of the slow and corruption-induced system of the old ways.”

He added that the new initiative “is worth celebrating and commendable" and urged Nigerians to support it.

The institute’s president appreciated the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for ensuring that the reforms of passport administration and migration services continue to record successes.

Ijoma also said there has been marked improvement in the welfare of inmates and personnel in correctional facilities, while personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been promoted after years of stagnation.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for the stern measures taken so far to curb corruption in the country and pledged that the institute would work with the government to ensure the president’s eight-point renewed hope agenda.

“We are desirous of making the Agenda a success,” he said, and he urged all Nigerians to join hands together to make it succeed.
