Minister mourns Kannywood actress, Saratu Gidado
The Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has expressed sadness over the death of legendary Kannywood actress, Saratu Gidado, popularly known as “Daso”.
Supreme News reports that Saratu Gidado died on Tuesday, April 9 at her home in Kano.
The minister, in a statement through her media aide, Nneka Anibeze, on Wednesday, described the late actress as a warm-hearted individual who touched the lives of many with her performances.
She acknowledged the deceased’s immense contributions to the industry and the legacy she left behind, highlighting her remarkable performances and versatile talent that endeared her to fans across Hausa-speaking regions and beyond.
“With heavy hearts, we, at the arts, culture and the creative economy mourn the passing of Saratu Gidado, a veteran actress, whose contributions to the film industry, especially in Kannywood, were immense.
“She will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.” the minister said.
Supreme News reports that Saratu Gidado was born Jan. 1968.
She was known for the role she always played as an aggressive and mischievous actress.
She made her film debut in 2000 in Linzami Da Wuta, produced by Sarauniya Movies.
Her villain and motherly roles earned her recognition among Arewa households.
She featured in more than 1,000 movies in Kannywood.
