He described Ojougboh, a former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Director of Project, as a dependable ally and a gentleman per excellence.

Former Gov. Ali-Modu Sheriff of Borno has described the death of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as shocking.

The sheriff, also a former senator, said this when he visited the Abuja residence of the late politician to condole with his family.

He described Ojougboh, a former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Director of Project, as a dependable ally and a gentleman per excellence.

“He was a gentleman per excellence and more than a friend. He was my brother. Ojougboh was a dependable ally, a friend, and a good person; he was always with me whenever I was in Abuja.

“It is just that nobody knows his or her last moments on earth; he spoke with me barely three hours before he died. I was in Yobe for a burial when he advised me to leave and go back to Maiduguri because of the bad road.

“He insisted that I go back to Maiduguri, and in less than an hour after I arrived in Maiduguri, the police officer attached to him came to the guest house to break the news of his death.

“His death is shocking. His death is very sad. It is too difficult for me to take; he was always with me; my home is his second home, and my office is his second office,” the sheriff said.

Ojougboh was the Director-General of the Ali-Modu Sheriff Campaign Organisation when he contested for the APC National Chairmanship position.

He died at the age of 64 on Wednesday in Abuja.

Until his death, he was the Director-General of the Coalition for Peace and Unity, a non-governmental organisation.

President Bola Tinubu, in a condolence message, described Ojougboh’s death as tragic, adding that he received the news of his death with shock and a heavy heart.

He condoled with Ojougboh’s family and the people of Delta and prayed for the Lord to grant his soul a peaceful rest.
