Peace Architecture to partner with govt., stakeholders to address herders-farmers clashes
The State Peace Architecture (SPA) in Delta has established an advocacy committee to collaborate with the state government and other relevant stakeholders to raise awareness about the Agro Rangers department in the state.
The committee members, who will work alongside the SPA Executive, include Mr Silas Omobhude, Mr Edhebe Fegor, Mrs Franca Eke, Mrs Bridget Agetu, Mrs Tracy Ikolomi, and Mr Jerome Morka.
SPA’s Secretary, Mr. Julius Erhaye, announced this while presenting an overview of the meeting’s outcome on Friday in Asaba.
Supreme news reports that the meeting, which was organised by an international non-governmental organisation, Search For Common Ground (SFCG), is funded by the European Union (EU).
The Agro Rangers department, which is domiciled in the state command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, is charged with the responsibility of mediating in herders-farmers crises.
The Agro Rangers department, housed within the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), is responsible for mediating herder-farmer conflicts in the state.
During the meeting, participants also agreed that educating youths on the dangers of drug abuse should be incorporated into the curriculum of both primary and secondary schools in the state.
They noted that this initiative would significantly help reduce the prevalence of drug abuse in the state and society at large.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the urgent need to establish rehabilitation centers to support the recovery of repentant drug abusers.
Furthermore, it was resolved that all Community Peace Architecture (CPA) and Local Government Peace Architecture (LPA) committees should intensify campaigns against drug abuse and addiction within their respective areas.
Supreme news recalls that the SFCG had on June 27, inaugurated the Delta SPA to strengthen dialogue on issues and conflicts in the state.
Supreme news also reports that SPA is expected to help stakeholders foster an inclusive approach to addressing challenges of violence, criminality and peace promotion in the area.
