Scholarships: Borno Govt spent N9bn on 32,000 students in 1 year, says official
The Borno Government spent over N9 billion on scholarships for 32,000 students in one year.
Mr. Bala Isa, the executive secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, made this known while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri.
Isa said that most of the students studied Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
He also said that the state government has approved the release of funds for additional scholarships to postgraduate students in the fields of education, arts, social sciences, languages, humanities, and management sciences.
“This initiative is designed to nurture the intellectual and professional growth of our indigenes, ensuring they are well equipped to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic transformation of our state and the nation at large,” Isa said.
He also said that the state government had approved a scholarship award for those who were interested in studying pilot training.
“This will provide interested and qualified Borno State indigenes with the unique chance to pursue a career in aviation, a field that offers immense potential for personal and professional advancement while opening new avenues for our state to thrive on the global stage.
“This dual scholarship initiative reflects His Excellency’s deep belief in the transformative power of education and skills development.
“It is rooted in his commitment to creating impactful governance, and this initiative is yet another testament to his dedication to the welfare of our people,” the executive secretary said.
