Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Chief Joseph Tegbe, has sympathised with the victims of the fire disaster at the popular Apata Market in Ibadan.

Tegbe, in a statement issued by his Media Team in Ibadan on Saturday, described the fire incident as very sad and unfortunate.

Supreme reports that a fully-loaded tanker had, on Thursday, lost control and rammed into a block of shops, and thereafter burst into flames at Apata junction, destroying many houses and shops.

"The unfortunate inferno is a huge loss, not only to Apata community but also, the entire people of Ibadan and Oyo State in general, considering the fact that the market is one of the oldest and busiest in Ibadan," Tegbe said.

The senatorial candidate, who said that he felt the pains of those affected by the unfortunate incident, promise to work together with the state government to mitigate the impacts of the disaster on them and prevent future occurrence.

He commended the quick intervention of the state government, particularly with the prompt visit of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Bayo Lawal, to the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment.

Tegbe expressed confidence that the state government, through its relevant agencies, would take necessary steps toward assuaging the pains of the victims.
