Breaking: Asari parade his fighters in show of strength in Rivers
There is an uneasy calm in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after the militant leader Mujaheed Asari Dokuboh paraded his fighters and declared that they are prepared to fight for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The presence of Asari's fighters in certain parts of the state, particularly in Degema Local Government Area, prompted Governor Siminalayi Fubara to lodge a complaint with the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Abdulsalam, during the army chief's visit to Government House.
Asari Dokubo, who addressed approximately 300 combatants in the viral video, warned Tinubu's opponents to be prepared and threatened to deal with anyone who seeks Tinubu's demise.
Asari, who recently returned from a pilgrimage to Mecca, stated that it is now Tinubu's turn to rule, emphasising that anyone who misbehaves or pursues Tinubu's demise will be destroyed.
Dokubo stated, "No matter what the enemies intend, they will fail. I am not a spectre. I just came from Saudi Arabia. We are present. We labour for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who will ultimately be successful. Whoever is plotting his failure has already failed.
"We do not compete with anyone else. Nobody has ever contended with us. It is rotated in sequence. It is Jagaban's turn, so please wait for yours. If you do anyhow, you see anyhow."
Fubara asserted that the presence of armed civilians in Degema, where the military maintains a garrison, calls into question the Army's role in maintaining the security of the nation.
Fubara stated, "I am extremely embarrassed by the presence of a camp in Degema (the local government area)." It is a military base, and civilians display their arms there.
"Is it because our laws now allow people to brandish AK-47s that they can display these weapons in front of military personnel and you do nothing?"
