President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) on the successful revitalisation of the Port Harcourt Refinery, which commenced petroleum product loading on Tuesday.

The President acknowledged the pivotal role of former President Muhammadu Buhari in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of all the nation’s refineries.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for financing the project and commended the leadership of Mr. Mele Kyari, NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, quoted the President in a statement as urging NNPC Limited to expedite the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery and the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

“These efforts will significantly enhance domestic production capacity, complemented by privately owned refineries, and establish Nigeria as a major energy hub. The gas sector will also receive unprecedented attention from the administration.

“President Tinubu reaffirms his administration’s commitment to repairing the nation’s refineries, aiming to eradicate the perception that Nigeria, a major crude oil producer, lacks refining capabilities for domestic consumption.”

Highlighting the importance of patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding Nigeria’s infrastructure, President Tinubu urged individuals, institutions, and citizens with responsibilities to stay focused and maintain public trust.

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises shared economic prosperity, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency, enhancing energy security, and increasing Nigeria’s export capacity.
