WARDC urges transparency in Edo Governorship election
The Women Advocates Research and Development Centre (WARDC) has called for transparency, inclusivity, and fairness in the upcoming Edo governorship election.
WARDC’s CEO, Emmanuella Azu, made the appeal in a statement on Friday in Abuja ahead of the poll on Saturday, 21 September.
Azu stressed that elections are crucial to democratic governance and consolidation, urging stakeholders to operate within the law and avoid undermining the electoral process.
“We urge politicians to refrain from actions contrary to free, fair, and credible elections, as enshrined in the constitution and United Nations Charter.
“The charter and constitution emphasise that government authority derives from the will of the people.”
Azu advocated for strategic partnerships founded on mutual respect, fairness, and inclusiveness to address electoral challenges.
“WARDC remains committed to upholding democracy, good governance, and credible elections.
“We will continue to support inclusive political processes, recognising increased women’s participation, justice, fairness, and equity.”
She added that WARDC had mobilised and trained accredited observers across Edo’s Local Government Areas to monitor the election.
