The United Nations Development Programme Global Environment Facility Integrated Approach Programme on Food Security (UNDP-GEF-IAP-FS) in collaboration Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN) is replicating multi stakeholders gender sensitive platform in seven states. This step is taken to foster agricultural production in Nigeria.

Supreme recalls on Friday in Abuja that the platform was first inaugurated in March 2021 to enhance sustainability and resilience in Nigeria’s agricultural production.

The programme is targeted at seven states of the Federation to build great communities that are resilient to climate risks and other shocks that drive food security for a period of five years.

The Project Manager, Resilient Food Security Project Mrs Rhoda Dia, said the programme had seen incredible results of donors’ efforts through climate smart agricultural practices.

Dia added that results were also seen through government engagement both at the national and subnational levels.

“We have trained and helped farmers to be more productive and resilient in food security program to tackle the problem of food security by building community resilience.

“We support women farmers, save lives and help rebuild livelihoods when crisis strikes.

“The UNDP-GEF believes no nation can develop without empowering women therefore women empowerment is at the heart of program on resilient food security in Nigeria,” she said

Hajia Salamatu Garba, Founder,Women Farmers Advanced Network (WOFAN) and the National President of the multi stakeholder gender sensitive platform commended UNDP-GEF for the initiative.

Garba said there was need for the platform to be replicated in the states and even local government to help pass the message to the farmers to achieve the desired results.
