The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to the provision of befitting post-service accommodation for its officers and soldiers.

Oluyede stated this during the inauguration of the newly constructed Corporate Headquarters of Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), on Thursday in Abuja.

He said that the company has recently executed the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers located at Idu, Abuja which was inaugurated in December 2024.

According to him, the capacity of PHDL to undertake projects of this magnitude attests to its growing profile as a reputable business entity in Nigeria’s real estate development industry.

The COAS said the new headquarters building would offer better space and modern facilities for quality business engagements that would further strengthen the entity.

“As Chief of Army Staff, my desire is to have a vibrant Post-Service Housing Development Limited that can help achieve one of my cardinal welfare schemes, which is the provision of befitting post-service accommodation for Nigerian Army officers and soldiers,” he said.

Oluyede charged the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of PHDL and his staff to optimise the benefits of the new facility and further enhance the profile of the company.

He also commended him for completing and commissioning the befitting corporate headquarters building.

“Your commitment and efficiency in executing this direct labour projects aimed at bringing a conducive working and living environment for the company’s workforce are commendable.

“The completion of this edifice stands as a glittering illustration of the outstanding achievements of this company’s management and staff.

“It reflects professionalism, ingenuity, and unwavering commitment to excellence,” he said.

The army chief thanked President Bola Tinubu, for his tireless support and continuous guidance, assuring that the Nigerian army shall continue to focus its energy and resources on actualising Mr President’s commitment to secure lives and properties of Nigerians and promote social welfare of its people.

In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of PHDL, Maj.-Gen. Joseph Omali, said the project being inaugurated comprised the PHDL Headquarters, fully furnished three blocks of flats of 2-bedrooms each, RSM’s office/MT Yard, Cafeteria with a VIP section as well as places of worship for the Christians and Muslims.

Omali said the newly constructed Corporate Headquarters represents a new dawn in the history of PHDL, adding that it would serve as a professional trademark towards the company’s mandate of providing modern shelter with global best practices.

He assured that the company would continue to thrive and make positive impacts on the welfare of the Nigerian army and by extension the entire nation.

“As we all know, PHDL was established in 1996 to implement the Nigerian Army Housing Scheme, with a mandate to provide affordable homes into which officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army could retire into.

“The Primary role of PHDL is to provide affordable houses/land to NA personnel.

“The company has gone through various phases of reformation as new ideas and innovations have continued to be implemented over the years.

“This novel company has continued to deliver affordable and durable houses or vacant plots to serve the post-service accommodation needs of officers and men of the Nigerian Army,” he said.
