Man, 28, in court for alleged solar panel theft

Leo said the defendant stole the solar panel from a plaza and was caught while trying to escape.

A 28-year-old man, Matthew Francis, on Thursday appeared before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing four solar panels worth N650, 000.

The police charged Francis of Barnawa area of Kaduna with conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on Dec. 12, at about 6.00 a.m., at Barnawa Complex area of Kaduna.

Leo said the defendant stole the solar panel from a plaza and was caught while trying to escape.

He added that the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must show evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

Emmanuel adjourned the case until Jan. 15, 2025 for hearing.
