Foundation brings succour to children in Ojodu LCDA
“With the little donations we got and my personal contributions we were able to hold the 2024 event.
A Non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Timilehin Leukemia Foundation (TLF), on Wednesday, hosted scores of children in Ojodu Council Development Area of Lagos State.
TLF founder, Ms Janet Oyedele, said that the children’s party was in memory of her only son who died of leukemia about ten years ago.
She said the foundation had striven to raise awareness of leukemia and also solicited blood donations, emphasising that the choice of Christmas day was because Timilehin died on Dec. 25.
Oyedele said that the prevailing economic situation, however, almost forced the organisers to abandon the event.
“The 10th anniversary of TLF is significant because God has been faithful in keeping me and the NGO.
“We have gone through thick and thin. We almost shelve the idea of this year’s commemoration because of the economic situation in the country.
“With the little donations we got and my personal contributions we were able to hold the 2024 event.
“The situation in the country is scary, we can imagine the stampede that followed the distribution of food items and that alone gave us a scare on how the 2024 event will hold,” she said.
Oyedele said that the 2024 event came through as a result of the courage and inner strength of the memory of Timilehin.
“Parents should also be alert on the welfare of their children.
“I also want to beg the government to do more in alleviating the sufferings of the masses,” she said
A youth leader in the community, Mr Waheed Aro, commended the organisers on their determination to feed the poor.
“We are very excited with the programme because it touched the lives of many young children in the community.
“This is a good initiative that will brighten the faces of the community, especially the children who are underprivileged.
“This type of initiative will encourage more people. I want to commend the organisers of this programme for the initiative.
“The Baale of Ojodu was very excited when he learnt that the foundation would be coming to assist the children with gifts, cash and household items.
NAN reports that the children were served lunch while they also participated in group games.
