An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, on Tuesday granted the mother, one Balikis Solihu, custody of the two children after annulling her Islamic marriage to Okechukwu Matthew.

The presiding Judge, Toyin Aluko, while delivering ruling said that the divorce was in mutual agreement of the two parties, who are both from Ilorin.

The court, however, ordered the wife to observe three months iddah (waiting) period before she could remarry again.

After granting custody of the two children in the marriage to the mother, the court ordered that the father should have unrestricted access to them.

The court also ruled that the father should pay N10,000 monthly for feeding and maintenance of the two children and be responsible for their school fees and medical services.

According to the ruling,, the mother must not travel with the children without the consent of their father and shall cease to have custody of the children once she remarries.

Earlier, the wife told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage due to lack of love and affection from her husband.

The husband agreed to the divorce, custody and maintenance but pleaded to have access to the children and said he could only afford N10,000 for maintenance of the children.
