A cleaner, Lami Sule, and her daughter, Rejoice Daniel, were rearraigned on Monday in an Upper Area Court for allegedly assaulting their neighbor.

The police charged Sule and Daniel with three counts of criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, and assault.

The prosecution counsel, Mr. Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the case was starting ‘de novo" (anew) as a result of the transfer of the former judge.

Tanko said that the case was reported to the airport police station in Abuja by the complainant, Mrs. Ajani Muyibat, on June 22, 2022.

He said that on the same date, while the complainant was chasing a goat away from her husband’s car with a stick, the first defendant (Sule) saw her and started insulting her.

He said that Sule started throwing stones at the complainant, which resulted in a fight between them that led the complainant to the Air Force Base Clinic for treatment.

The prosecutor said that the offense contravened the provisions of Sections 96, 397, and 265 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, ordered the defendants to continue with the earlier bail granted by the formal judge, following an oral application made by the defense counsel, Mr. C.N. Owhor, praying to the court that the bail granted earlier should continue.

Abdulkarim adjourned the matter until July 17 for a hearing.
