Productivity Award: FG inaugurates reconstituted committee

The Federal Government has inaugurated the reconstituted National Productivity Order of Merit Award Committee for the selection of deserving awardees for conferment.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who inaugurated the Committee on Friday in Abuja, said the committee was constituted for selection of deserving awardees for conferment.

“The committee is tasked with the responsibility of selecting and recommending individuals and organisations for conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award by the President.
“The reconstitution of this committee and its inauguration today demonstrate government’s commitment to issues of productivity and its enhancement in Nigeria,” he said.
He urged the committee to come up with a list of awardees for 2019 and 2020 for approval for conferment of the 2021 NPOM Award.

The minister also urged the committee to apply probity and fairness in discharging their responsibility.
He added that the NPOM award was instituted by the government to recognise and honour productive individuals and organisations in Nigeria for achievements made in the three preceding years.

Ngige noted that the specific objective of the NPOM Award was to institutionalise productivity consciousness and excellence in service among workers and organisations both the public and private sectors.
He said the award was also to recognise and highlight the contributions of the individual workers, as well as organisations, to higher productivity and among others.
The Chairman of the committee is Mr Ikechi Uko, a representative of the Productive Sector.

Alhaji Habu Jajere, representing Nigerian Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Mr Uche Nwokedi, representing Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) are members.
It includes Sen. Adawari Pepple, representing Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr Jamiu Abdulkareem, representing the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and Mr Victor Eburajojo, representing Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA).

Others are Mr Jatau Kandu, representing Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity; Rep Adamu Wudil, representing House Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity; and Chief Hilary Amodu, representing the Creative Sector.
The rest are Dr Yerima Peter Tarfa, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and Dr Kashim Akor, Director-General, National Productivity Centre (NPC).
