Edo Govt. reaffirms support for residents at Ramadan lecture

The Edo State Government on Sunday reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the welfare of all residents, irrespective of faith, tribe, or background, as part of its vision for a peaceful and inclusive society.
Umar Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), made this statement at the 13th Ramadan lecture organised by the NTA Benin Network Centre.
The event was held in collaboration with the Edo chapter of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
Represented by Dr Suleman Ikhuoriah, a member of the Edo Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Ikhilor emphasised the significance of Ramadan as a time for spiritual renewal, reflection, and unity.
“Ramadan is a time of unity, compassion, self-discipline, empathy, and generosity,” Ikhilor said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering a harmonious society.
He also extended warm greetings to the Muslim community, congratulating them on the commencement of the holy month.
In her welcome address, Mrs Teni Ajayi, Zonal Director of NTA Benin, highlighted the station’s long-standing dedication to the annual Ramadan lecture, which had been held for over a decade.
The 2025 lecture, themed “Ramadan: A Tool for Societal Reformation,” aimed to educate both the Muslim community and the public on Ramadan’s role in promoting positive societal change.
“Ramadan is a time to renew faith, seek forgiveness, and cultivate self-discipline,” Ajayi noted, adding that it encouraged empathy for the less fortunate and strengthened community bonds.

Alhaji Abdulazeez Igbinidu, Chairman of NSCIA Edo chapter, commended NTA Benin for its consistent efforts in promoting religious understanding and harmony.
He emphasised the importance of the annual lecture in fostering dialogue and strengthening the bond between the Muslim community and the wider Edo society.
The event brought together Islamic scholars, government officials, and community leaders, who discussed how Ramadan could serve as a catalyst for societal transformation, peace, and development.
