Ofili advances to semi-finals in women’s 200m
She is among the 18 athletes, being the top three in the six heats, who have advanced to the next round.
Team Nigeria’s Favourite Ofili advanced on Sunday at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris to the semi-finals of the women’s 200-metre event.
Running in lane 2 of heat 6 of the event’s first round at the Stade de France, Ofili ran a season-best 22.24 seconds to win the heat.
She won ahead of Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who ran in at 22.28 to place second in that heat.
Supreme News reports that Ofili has therefore qualified for Monday evening’s semi-finals.
She is among the 18 athletes, the top three in the six heats, who have advanced to the next round.
”It was tough winning, but I did it, and I am proud of myself,” Ofili said.
The 21-year-old 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, however, said the semi-finals were going to be a different ball game.
”It is going to be tougher, but I will do my best to get into the final,” she promised.
