Earn money with plastic waste – Govt. urges Anambra residents
... ASWAMA organised the walk in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development, Coca-cola and TechnoServe, through the Nigerian Plastic Solutions Activities.
Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA) has urged the state residents to earn money with their plastic waste instead of dumping them indiscriminately and hurt the environment.
Mr Ikenna Nwanegbo, Head of Enforcement of ASWAMA, gave the advice during a public sensitisation walk on proper waste disposal, on Thursday in Awka.
Supreme News reports that ASWAMA organised the walk in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development, Coca-cola and TechnoServe, through the Nigerian Plastic Solutions Activities.
According to Nwanegbo, wrong disposal of plastic waste, destroys the environment, injures marine life and harms human health.
“We are calling on everyone to turn their plastic waste into money by selling them to ASWAMA and TechnoServe rather than disposing them wrongly or indiscriminately.
“This way, we can achieve a cleaner, greener and sustainable Anambra State as well as make the ecosystem safe for all,” he said.
Mr Franklin Nwarieibe, Senior Business Adviser at TechnoServe, urged members of the public to stop dumping plastics inside drains or on roadsides.
He said that such disposal of waste affected the ecosystem and caused flooding.
Nwarieibe said that the aim of the sensitisation walk was to enlighten the residents on how they could turn their plastic waste to money by taking them to designated centres where the waste would be collected and paid for.
