Enugu: Searching for talented boxers remains my priority – Ude
Ude said that the school sports give many children the opportunity to showcase their God-given talents and a base to catch the boxers young.
A Boxing Coach in Enugu State, Blaise Ude, on Friday said that searching for talented boxers was one of his priorities this year.
Ude told the newsmen in Enugu that he would use the yearly House of Assembly Speaker’s boxing talent event to search for new talents.
“We have grassroots boxing programme initiated and sponsored by Enugu State House of Assembly speaker.
“Also, the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Lloyd Ekweremadu, has promised to revive school sports in the state.
“Aside the grassroots activities, we have other state festivals, national festival and the Youth Games.
“We will use all these upcoming activities to harness talents discovered at the talent hunt and school sports,” he said.
Ude said that the school sports give many children the opportunity to showcase their God-given talents and a base to catch the boxers young.
“Our commissioner has given us assurance that there will be school sports this year to get new athletes for the state.
“Also, the state has promised to give us competitions yearly for the purpose of harnessing discovered talents,” he said.
The coach said that he had elite boxers that could do the state proud at the forthcoming sports festival and other external competitions.
He expressed appreciation to Ekweremadu for honouring the boxers who distinguished themselves at the maiden South-East Boxing Championship hosted by the state in 2023.
