Onu died at the age of 73
The family of the First Civilian Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who passed away earlier on Thursday, says that it has lost a brother, an uncle, and a leader par excellence.
In a text signed and issued to journalists in Abakaliki by Dr. Uzoma Onu, on behalf of the family, it was said that Onu died at the age of 73.
He described it as a “great loss” to the family.
Supreme News recalls that before Onu’s death, he was the former Minister of Science and Technology under President Muhammadu Buhari.
The family member noted that Onu was a distinguished and patriotic Nigerian who served the nation effectively and efficiently in various capacities.
“He was a fine stateman, party leader, political strategist, brilliant scholar, outstanding intellectual, and teacher, among others.
“A man of discipline and exceptional character. Our hearts are filled with sorrow. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him for a long time to come.
“The burial arrangements will be communicated by the family in due time,” Onu added.
