The Federal Controller of Works in Benue, Mr Olumide Alabi, says the Federal Government is rehabilitating nine highways in the state to enhance movement.

Alabi, who made the disclosure in an interview with the newsmen on Wednesday, said there were more than 30 highways in the state.

The controller further disclosed that the dualisation of Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu road was ongoing.

He also said that contractors were on site working on Otukpo/Ogobia/Ankpa and Oju/Adu/Okoko roads.

Alabi, however, explained that some of the contractors were not currently on site because they applied for contracts augmentation from the FG, and were waiting for approval.

The controller listed the roads for augmentation of contracts to include Yadev/Katsina-Ala road, Makurdi/Gboko road, and Katsina-Ala/Takum road.

Others are Lessel/Awajir/Agberagba road, Ihugh/Koriya road, Makurdi/Naka/Adoka road, and Otukpo/Ogobia/Ankpa road.

“We are doing our best to make sure that the roads are in perfect condition.

“We don’t really have a particular time within the year to fix roads. It is a continuous process.

“The roads are usually very busy during the yuletide, and we are making efforts for the contractors to return to site and fix the roads,” he said.

Benue Commissioner for Transport, Renewable Energy and Power, Mr Omale Omale, said that the government was determined to construct good road network to link all parts of the state and ensure commuters’ safety.

“It will be connected in a manner that we have terminals or exchange points, designated roads for buses, trucks, etc.,” Omale stated.
