Prof. Ogugua Egwu, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ebonyi chapter, says he will continue to defend workers interests in spite of his appointment to the Ebonyi Agricultural Land Development Authority Board.

Egwu said this on Wednesday in Abakaliki during an interview with the newsmen.

Supreme News reports that Egwu was recently appointed to the board by Gov. Francis Nwifuru.

Egwu said he was not worried by the negative perception of the appointment, adding that it was part of the call to service as contained in the labour mantra.

“Conflict is an integral part of life and it even occurs in the family. Whenever it comes, we confront it and stand by the right thing.

“I will stand with the workers whenever conflict comes,” he emphasised.

He said the inclusion of NLC on the authority’s board would offer organised labour in the state the opportunity to contribute its quota towards the realisation of the agency’s mandates.

“It will not be out of place for the NLC to be represented on such a board. I am very prepared to represent the NLC on the board and pledge to be fair, firm, and resolute,” he said.

Supreme News reports that the board is headed by Mrs. Loveth Akpa, the wife of one of the All Progressives Congress chieftains in the state.
