Mr Sebastian David has emerged as the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The new chairman was elected alongside 19 other executive members during the party’s Local Government Congress conducted on Thursday in Kwoi, headquarters of the LGA.

David scored 186 votes from the 10 wards of Jaba to beat his only challenger, Joseph Makkadas, who polled 29 votes

Six candidates vied for the chairmanship position but four withdrew from the race just before voting got underway.

All but one of the remaining 19 positions had candidates elected and returned unopposed.

The Congress Committee Chairman, Mr Timmy Kambai, lauded the party members for a peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise.

Kambai enjoined the newly elected PDP executives to close ranks and work to sustain the goodwill the party was enjoying.

In his acceptance speech, David thanked the party faithful for the confidence reposed in him and other executives, promising not to let them down.

He called on those who lost out not to despair but join hands with the new leadership in moving the party to enviable heights.

The chairman pledged to leave no stone unturned towards ensuring the party sweeps the October 19 local government elections in the state.

According to him, PDP is the party to beat in Jaba LGA and the state as a whole.

“Jaba is the heart beat of the PDP in Kaduna State and we will do everything humanly possible to make sure it stays that way,” he stated.

The congress followed the conduct of the rescheduled September 14 ward congresses in the area after internal wranglings over the delegates’ list among the stakeholders.
