LASTMA rescues Kara bridge accident victims, 1 dies

The operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the rescued two major multiple-accident victims and several others on ‘Kara’ bridge outward Lagos.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Mr Taofiq Adebayo, said this in a statement in Lagos on Thursday.

Adebayo said the multiple accident, which occurred around 7 a.m. on Thursday, involved a fully loaded containerised truck with five other private vehicles.

He said that a male hawker died instantly during the accident.

Adebayo said that the corpse of the dead hawker and several others rescued by LASTMA personnel were handed over to medical personnel on ground at the scene of the accident.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the fully loaded truck developed a brake failure.

He said the truck, after experiencing break failure, crushed a Hiace 18-seater commercial bus with passengers and four other vehicles.

The Head of LASTMA (Zebra) at Ojodu- Berger, Mr Mabunmi Abisola, who led the rescue team, confirmed that the vehicles involved in the fatal accident were immediately removed from ‘Kara’ bridge to pave the ways for free flow of traffic.

Abisola disclosed that the emergency responders at the scene of the accident included the Nigeria Police, Trace Officials and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
