U.S. proposes ban on connected vehicles import from China, Russia

The U.S. has proposed a rule to ban sale or import of connected vehicles and related components from China and Russia over alleged national security risks.
The White House said this on Monday in a press release.
“The Department of Commerce is issuing a notice of proposed rulemaking that will, if finalised as proposed, prohibit the sale or import of connected vehicles that incorporate certain technology,” the press release said.
It added that, if finalised as proposed, the rule would prohibit import of particular components from countries of concern, specifically China ndd China.
The restrictions on software from China and Russia would take effect in 2027 and the prohibitions on hardware are scheduled to take effect in 2030, according to the release.
