Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Oyo State Chapter, has urged Christians to spend quality time on praising and worshiping God as they celebrated Easter.

Akinyemiju, in an interview with Newsmen, said praising and worshiping God was for Jesus Christ, who gave up His rights to restore and save mankind.

The CAN chairman also enjoined Christians to ensure that all those sins they confessed and repented from in the past 40 days remained renounced forever.

He urged them to owe no man anything but to love one another while continuing to ask God for peace in the state and country.

According to him, the security, economic and socio-political situation in the country at the moment dictated that the Body of Christ should come together united, focused and be non complacent.

He added that Christians should be proactive, involved in political activities and not siting on the fence without any recourse to violence.

Akinyemiju advised those in position of authority to always remember to display justice and fairness in governance.

He urged them to rule and administer their constituencies with the fear of God.

He remarked that Easter concluded the passion of  Jesus Christ which began  with a 40 – day period of prayer and fasting.

“It is a time for Christians to remember the ultimate expression of love that happened some 2000 years ago, this expression of love is Jesus Christ showing grace and compassion to those who brutally beat and tortured Him.

“Easter otherwise known as Resurrection Day is a time to celebrate and mark the anniversary of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and ascension to Heaven.

“Without the resurrection, the Christian faith has no hope to rest upon, but since God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, nothing else really matters and no one can successfully argue that Christianity isn’t true.

“His resurrection means Jesus is who He claimed to be, that He has the power He claimed to have and that He did what He promised to do,” he said.

Akinyemiju,  however, thanked God for the grace and mercy to witness the Easter 2021 alive in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The sacrifice of His only begotten son will not be wasted.

“God will renew us spiritually, heal our land and grant us the grace to continue to celebrate Him all the days of our lives,” he said.

A Christian faithful, Mr Taiwo Olusola said  Easter signified salvation and God reconciling humanity to Himself.

Olusola advised individuals to take the significance of Easter personal, believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and allow it to make positive impacts on their lives.

He urged governments at all levels to try to alleviate people’s suffering so that in times such as Easter, they would be able to celebrate.

“Easter celebration since last year, has been on a low key due to COVID-19 pandemic and the world economic inflation, it’s not as loud as the past ones,” he said.

Supreme reports that Easter, also called Resurrection Sunday is the day Christians commemorate and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
