A 55-year old man, Isaac Arikuyori, was on Thursday, arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and breach of public peace.

The Prosecutor, ASP James Obaletan, told the court that Arikuyori committed the offence at about 2.35p.m on March 31, at Alaba Camp, Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government.

Obaletan said that the defendant assaulted the complainant, OluwaToyin Ojo, and conducted himself in a manner capable of causing breakdown of law and order.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.


The Defence Counsel, Mr Ayotunde Ibitoye, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms, and promised that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Taofeek Badmus, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in like amount.

Badmus said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court”s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

He further ordered that the surety should provide a valid means of identification, and present evidence of three years tax payment to the state government.

The magistrate said that the defendant should remain in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until April 28, for hearing.
