The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has organised a free medical outreach in Kamuru-Ikulu community in Zango-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.Declaring the two-day exercise open on Thursday, Brig.-Gen. Florence Gyang, the leader of the medical team, said the gesture was part of its Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).According to Gyang, the gesture is also part of the non-kinetic approach aimed at winning the hearts of the people of the community, as well as giving them a sense of belonging.
Gyang further explained that the exercise would promote peaceful coexistence among the people, adding that the military was also concerned about the health of the people they secured.“We are here as part of our civil-military cooperation to give some medical succour to the people of this community.“This medical outreach is also part of the non-kinetic approach we have adopted in promoting peaceful coexistence among communities.
“So, this exercise will go a long way in telling the people that we are not just concerned about securing them, but their well being, as well,”she saidThe team leader said the exercise targeted 5,000 beneficiaries devoid of religious and ethnic affiliations.She advised the beneficiaries to live in peace with one another, pointing out that the community would thrive only when they eschewed violence.Speaking at the event, Mr Nicholas Afel, the Acting District Head of Kamuru-Ikulu, thanked the military for the gesture and urged them to do more.
Afel, who lauded the gesture, added that it would provide opportunity for his subjects to ascertain their health status.“We are highly delighted and grateful to the military for this gesture, because it will avail us with the opportunity to live a healthy life,” he said.
Supreme reports that the exercise featured free consultation, health screening and talk, dental care, eye test and issuing of eye glasses and deworming of children Also, mosquito nets were distributed to the beneficiaries.
